Henrico Schools’ Back-to-School Kickoff returns July 31with sports, games, giveaways and more!

HENRICO, Va., July 2,2025 — Henrico County Public Schools is kicking off the 2025-26 school yearwith fun, friendly competition and all kinds of festivities for our studentsand families! HCPS’ annual Back-to-School Kickoff returns Thursday,July 31, and will be held at the spacious Henrico Sports & Events Centerfor a second straight year to get students and families pumped up for the firstday of school on Aug. 18.

The free divisionwide event will include:

· Basketball,futsal (indoor soccer) and kickball tournaments (sign up by July 23 at https://www.hoopitup.com/henricocounty)

· “Kids’Zone” games and activities

· ADJ and live performances

· Freebackpacks, school supplies and other giveaways (while supplies last)

· Avaccination clinic

· Opportunitiesto meet and talk with school leaders and other staff members from across thedivision

· Resourcesto prepare students and families for the 2025-26 school year

· And much more!

The wide variety of family activities, music, giveaways and sportstournaments, along with the immunization clinic, community and educationalresources and school representatives in attendance, will help students acrossHenrico County start the school year strong.

The popular 3-on-3 Hoop It Up basketball tournament returns forHCPS students from third grade to 12th grade, and, for the first time, studentscan sign up to play futsal and kickball. Teamsmust register to play these sports by Wednesday, July 23. Players cancompete in multiple sports, but registration will not be offeredthe day of the event. Space is limited based on grade level, so sign up todayfor free at https://www.hoopitup.com/henricocounty.

More details about tournament schedules, transportation optionsand vaccinations will be announced later in the month.

The Back-to-School Kickoff is put together by HCPS’Division of Family and Community Engagement.Donations of backpacks and school supplies are being accepted for distributionat the event.
