Henrico Christmas Mother

Image result for henrico christmas mother clipartSupport our Kaechele SCA: It is hard to believe we are quickly approaching the end of the year 2018, and we are knocking on the door to open up the new year, 2019. There are many special events and activities during this winter season. I hope you will support our school and our community during the week of Dec. 10-14. This year, our SCA is asking for our help in supporting the Henrico Christmas Mother by students donating at least $1 each day. Flyers will be sent home on Tuesday with further details. I hope you will consider supporting this SCA project.

Helping the Vets

Image result for thank you usa clipartThank you for your support!  Blue Star Families shipped 90 boxes to deployed servicemen and women. They took several bags of groceries to Liberation Veteran Services, an organization that helps homeless veterans find jobs and places to live. They took snack items like granola bars to the USO at the airport for soldiers traveling during the holiday season. They took snack items, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to the USO at Fort Lee (which processes new incoming soldiers). They shared candy with the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center at McGuire VA Medical Center. Veterans there suffer from major brain trauma. Our contribution has definitely made a difference!!! Thanks again to all coyotes and our KES families!

KES Book Nook

We are so excited to announce the grand opening of our KES Book Nook! Books in our Book Nook  are free and meant to be read, enjoyed, and shared! Book Nooks grow lifelong readers by providing books to the community and for the community when the library may not be available! We stock our Book Nook with donated books that can be taken for enjoyment and then shared with someone else. You can take a book or leave a book! As you can see our nook is located in the front of our school by the preschool playground. Read, coyotes, read!

Author Visit

On Friday, November 2nd, Richard and Kathy Verlander (parents to the professional baseball player Justin Verlander) will be visiting KES to talk to students about their newest book The Shelter Gang and Their Secret Adventure. In your child’s Tuesday folder, you should have received a flyer with information about their visit which includes an order form for an autographed copy of their book. If interested, students should return checks payable to Verlanderbook in the envelope attached to the flyer. Please return these envelopes to your child’s teacher by Thursday, November 1st if you would like to order a book for your child.

Honoring Our Veterans

Kaechele will be participating in two more experiences to honor and support our veterans. First, we will create a visual representation in our school’s hallway to honor men and women who have served our country in the past or who are currently serving but may not be able to attend our assembly. If interested in sending information for our visual representation, then complete the attached form and send to school. If you would like to honor more than one veteran, then please go to our KES website to print off additional forms using this link: Veterans Day brick. We will collect and display pictures until Friday, Nov. 16th. Second, our KES community will partner with Blue Star Families to collect items to be sent to our deployed troops and Liberation Veteran Services. If you would like to donate, then please send in items between Wednesday, October 31 and Friday, November 9th. Items to be collected are follows:

Personal Items (travel size)
Shampoo, conditioner
Hand/body lotion
Deodorant/Antiperspirant
Toothbrush/Toothpaste
Dental floss
“Wisps” (dental cleaners)
Gold Bond foot powder
Hand sanitizer

Healthy individual snack packs – nuts, dried fruit, beef jerky, fruit snacks, trail mix

Your Opinion Matters

Our school’s mission is to partner with families in supporting all students. Mrs. Shaia, KES’s school Counselor, would like ideas and suggestions for parent workshops, trainings, etc. Please review the survey link below. We will use this information when making decisions for this school year. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewfQNhr8gOr3UJipGZtwC6CsfoTjOg-xAVmFpQnrvEhj2ZgQ/viewform

Safety Matters

The Kaechele Safety Committee wants to hear from you.  If you have a safety concern and/or suggestion about how to make our school safer, then please use the link below.   If you want us to contact you, then please make sure to leave your information, and we will follow up with you as needed. These responses will be checked monthly by the school’s safety committee. If this concern is something that needs to be addressed immediately, then please call the school.  For quick reference, this link will also be posted on our school’s main website under “Site Links.” Parent Safety Concerns Survey

Safety Drills  Please be aware that we have many safety drills in the course of the year. In some cases, we involve the fire department and other emergency personnel.  Their vehicles and equipment could be parked in the parking lot. We even try to challenge ourselves to simulate a “real” incident even though we do our best to make our students aware and comfortable with these drills.  Please do not be alarmed if you see what might look like an emergency or hear students discussing procedures. We will certainly communicate with the community in the event of a real occurrence. Next week, we will be practicing our procedures in the event of an earthquake and tornado.
